FFfAW: All our yesterday’s

This week’s photo prompt is provided by Louise with The Storyteller’s Abode. Thank you Louise!

Christine gave a sigh of remembrance as she watched the boat sail by. She could still remember when everybody used cars and buses on wheels. Ever since global warming had really started to kick in with the ice caps melting cars had become a thing of the past. There were no roads anymore I’m right which had been caused by rising sea levels.

Her son Dan jumped off the bus through what had previously been a first story window but was now the front door. He looked critically at her, “Mum, are you being sentimental again? You look like you are going to cry.”

“I just wish we had listened to all the warnings.”

“There is no point in living in our yesterday’s and wondering what if. We can’t go back and change the past so we have to make the most of our future and the way it is now.”

She gave him a watery smile. “You are probably right. Besides, no cars means no pollution. Better late than never.”

  1. I wrote a short story once that suggested the only way to avoid the effects of climate change was to revert to a world wide agrarian society. Probably getting rid of cars wouldn’t be enough. The question is, how much would people be willing to surrender for the sake of the planet’s biosphere?

  2. Such a scenario is a definite possibility – especially in certain areas of the world. Hopefully enough can be done to halt climate change before it gets that far. Good story, Angie. 🙂
