It was the middle of the summer holidays and Benji had reached the level of mindnumbing boredom. As he lay in the field he turned to his mate, Johnny, and sighed heavily.
“Yeah, me too.”
They had been staring up at the sky, but right now Benji twisted his head to stare at the fencing. Suddenly his face cracked into a smile. “Do you have your gloves?”
When Benji’s dad, Alfred, looked later he was amazed to find the barbed wire fencing had been twisted into a perfect circle so the two boys could play a game.
“Ingenious,” he muttered.
