The small child, Alfie, ran into his grandparents’ garden. He couldn’t wait to see the car that he had been told about. His dad had told him that it would give Herbie some good competition. Of course, Alfie decided that this meant the car could talk. Logic would have told him that this was completely impossible, but, when you are five, that goes out of the window.

“Where is it?” He tried to run past his grandmother to look in the garden behind her.

“Oh, I don’t think you should go back there just yet. The car is in a pretty bad mood because leaves have grown around his tyres. Your Grandad has gone to try and make it happy.”

“Does it have a name?” Alfie charged past his grandmother, excited to see a talking car. What he saw, instead, was his grandad laying motionless inside the vehicle. It had eaten him! A squealing Alfie ran inside, as quickly as possible.

Sitting up, the grandad grinned. “Now, that’s how you traumatise grandchildren!”
