FFfAW: Driving practice

This week’s photo prompt is provided by Sonya with the blog, Only 100 Words. Thank you Sonya!

“Why have you brought me all the way out here?” Brian looked around the deserted piece of land that was devoid of anything except the old water tower.

“Where else would you expect to practice?” Brian’s long-suffering dad threw him the car keys. “Times Square?”

“No need to be sarcastic. Do you think I really need this much space to do a three-point turn?” Brian climbed into the driver’s seat of the car and put his hands on the wheel as he waited for his father to clamber in beside him. “I am taking lessons, you know.”

“Yes, I know. Anyway, show me what you can do three-point turn -wise. Your instructor said that this was the manoeuvre we needed to work on.”

“Watch this.” Brian managed to turn the car and reversed into the old water tower.

Both men looked up at it, waiting for it to collapse, but, even though it swayed, it never fell. They looked at each other before his father uttered one word, “Drive!”

  1. Having taught my sister, nephew and two sons to drive, I relate to the father in this story. Sitting in the passenger seat with a novice driver can be terrifying. Great take on the prompt.

  2. Funny! I’m quite sure that the next time they go out for practice there will be no water towers within driving distance! If they cleared the area before the tower fell….they will have many laughs about it over the years and other generations will enjoy it as well.
