A piece of history

This piece was written for this week’s Sunday photo fiction challenge. In this challenge you are given a photo and asked to write a story of no more than 200 words that is inspired by the image.

This is the image so we were given this week:

131-11-november-22nd-2015 (1)

This is my 200 word story:

– –

Alex excitedly pointed towards an olde worlde style building. “This. This is what I wanted to show you, Sally.”

Sally shielded her eyes from the sun, and peered over the road towards the building. She had no idea what it was that she was supposed to be looking for, and there was certainly no clues showing on the buildings face. “Are we staying here tonight?”

Alex gave her a smile. “It is a hotel these days, but, I was unable to secure us rooms there.”

“Then, why are we standing here?”

“Back in the day, before it received its modern facade, this was actually known as the tythe barn. Have you figured out why we are standing here?”

Sally really did not have any idea, so she found herself shaking her head. “I just don’t see any significant detail in a building that we are not even going to stay in tonight. Why can’t we just go there?”

“This is where I was born, Sally,” Alex continued, ignoring her angry tone. “I wanted you to see where it was that I was born because you do keep asking me if I was born in a barn. The answer is, yes.”
