The writing prompt today was very late, and so I only had time to do a short piece. Fortunately, this seemed to fit very well with what I wanted to do with the prompt. I would like to think that I have done this justice, but feel free to let me know your thoughts 🙂

This is the prompt:

The Prompt

Before she knew it, she was just another set of eyes in a dusty attic, waiting for the stairs to creak.

This is what I have chosen to write:

– –

When she first realised that she was not alone in the attic she actually felt a wave of relief wash over her body. Shut in this place on her own was somewhere that she did not want to be. She shook the dust from herself and began to look at all the bits and bobs that had been left up here over the years. That is, she would have looked properly but everywhere was covered in dust and shrouded in darkness. Not only that, but her movements were restricted.

Instead she decided to focus her attention on the other eyes that she had noticed. She hoped that they were not just part of a painting or something similar that had been stored up here. But, no, there were definitely eyes looking at her from the darkness.

Jasmine sat up on her haunches and sniffed at the air. She was definitely sharing the space with other creatures. She hoped that they were going to be friendly, and not try to eat her like had happened in their previous home. She sniffed again and realise that food was available, so she hoped that that would be enough of a deterrent.

“Hello?”

The small cry was met with various sounds of greeting. This was going to be a good place, she decided.

Just then she heard the stairs leading towards the attic creaking under somebody’s weight. Suddenly the room was filled with the noise of all of the different pets in cages. The light flicked on to reveal somebody standing in silhouette carrying various food.

Oh, great, feeding time!
